Mastering the Fashion Cycle

The fashion cycle can often leave us feeling less unique and more mainstream as trends peak and decline.

Take cargo trousers for example. Comfortable, fashionable and versatile. But fast forward a few months into this trend and popularity increases; most retailers will have replicated the trend, bringing out cargo trousers out in every colour imaginable for lower prices. Otherwise known as the ‘peak’ in the fashion cycle. Due to these trousers becoming more accessible to consumers, it is no doubt that people are going to end up with similar pairs.

So, where do you stand now? You're no longer ahead of the game in fashion, you’ve slipped back into a common style and you really do not want to wear these trousers anymore. After a fashion trend has reached its peak, ultimately, there's going to be a decline along with rejection - This seems like an awfully unsustainable way to consume. So, read below on how to navigate trends sustainably.

3 Ways To Navigate Trends Sustainably:

How to be one of a kind and work with fashion trends timelessly. So you’re not constantly discarding new wardrobe additions.

  1. Embrace Quality and Value:

Rather than chasing after every cheaper reproduction of a trending item, shift your focus to quality and longevity. Invest in a pair of cargo’s that exudes craftsmanship. Quality garments will last you a lifetime even within a dying trend.

2. Seek Unique Collaborations:

The Salomon XT-6 trainer gained immense popularity this summer, but their increased production led to their loss of exclusivity. To stand out from the crowd, keep an eye out for limited-edition collaborations, this way you’ll own shoes with unique designs that are less likely to be seen everywhere. My personal favourite is the Salomon x Sandy Liang collaboration, although I wasn't smart enough or quick enough to grab a pair of these pretty pink shoes.

3. Reinvent Classic Styles:

Love the look of ballet flats? Unfortunately, every girl has them now, and every other girl has a metallic pair. Go classic, and rediscover the charm of Mary Janes. They still give that dainty feminine look just with a twist of elevation and practicality. Opt for quality materials and colours that deviate from the rest.
